Faux Find: Sugar Skull Satchel

sugarskullbagThis is the first year I’ve actively observed Dia de los Muertos. I learned how to create sugar skulls, participated in a local ritual and celebration to honor those that have passed,  chowed down on some Mexican treats, and spent some personal time reflecting on happy memories of grandparents, friends, and pets. Although there’s no doubt of the sanctity behind the Day of the Dead, it is traditionally deemed a celebratory holiday. And as with most common holidays, I decided the day required some special dress. The calavera is not only an important part of the days’ offerings and decorations, but also the focus of my festive getup. I’ve come across many pieces portraying it – now on my must-have list – but Loungefly’s line of vegan handbags was certainly one of the stand-outs. The Cream Sugar Skull Satchel is the perfect accessory with a traditional meets modern take, crafted out of thread, metal, and PVC. Oh, and despite the name, it’s dairy free.

Chinese New Year: Year Of The Crocodile

croc_bagWhile, I’m disgusted by the idea of crocodile farming, I’m all in favor of this Lux de Ville “Rebel” faux croc bag. With the kiss lock closure and a serious amount of metal, it manages to maintain all the bite of a real bag without harming any of the fierce freshwater reptiles it resembles. This white hot accessory instantly ups you to risk-taker status. So, go shead and premiere it post Labor Day – I dare ya.

Chinese New Year: Year Of The Cheetah

cheetah_bagNot to sound catty, but I’m a strictly black bag kind of girl. That is, until this heart stamped cheetah purse put the pressure on my rotten cheatin’ heart. And so, I strayed.  A small leap from leopard print, this Rock Rebel accessory is adorable and dainty, yet not too fussy with its faux fur and matte vinyl trim. You know what they say, “Anything worth having is a thing worth cheating for.”

Picturesque In Pink

PinksEver since I ascended into my tween years, I haven’t really been a fan of the color pink. In contrast, I do exhibit most of the girly girl stereotypes – loving lipsticks and liners, living for shopping, and willingness to die for the perfect pair of shoes. I just couldn’t seem to separate pink from prissy. But this tattooed duo from Rock Rebel has put pink back on the color charts. These glitter bombs add the perfect punch to any outfit. Sass up cocktail attire or blow the boring out of your everyday denim.  Struggling to resist the sparkly vegan vinyl of the Winged Rose Headband and matching True Love Wrist Clutch, I’m finding them less out of place and more in good tatse. Despite Katy Perry’s words of wisdom, I’m suddenly and unexpectedly all for this glittery get-up.

The Ed Hardly Fad

EdHardyBagEd Hardy – we all recognize the infamous brand. Some of you cool kids may even know the sweet story behind the legendary tattoo artist, Don Ed Hardy, for whom the line was named. Anyone who catches a glimpse of me on a regular basis can easily attest to my serious addiction to this signature label. It comprises the majority of my once-well-rounded wardrobe. While it may just be a passing trend for some, it’s definitely left a permanent dent in my closet – surprising considering many of the items from the Ed Hardy collection are hardly animal-friendly. While I take refuge in comfy cotton tees and luxe loungewear, I find myself sorely disappointed whenever I browse their seasonal accessories line-up. Everything from bags to bracelets is completely overwhelmed with leather. Even canvas covered clutches sport a touch of leather detailing or an unsympathetic strap.

But today, I have found the Holy Grail of the Ed Hardy handbags. The City Burner Birmingham Hobo ditches cow hide for durable nylon fabric without sacrificing the ever-present Ed Hardy sass and edge. Plus, its perfect size means I’ll be putting it to everyday use. This purchase not only makes a delightful new addition to my stash, but also reaffirms my love for the label.

Dear Christian A.,
I’ll never doubt thee again.

Signed,
Obsessively Yours
